There are thousands of couples who would eagerly adopt these children. We need to remind one another that each and every life is precious, and worth protecting.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this sounds an awful lot like discrimination to me. But what we don’t have the right to do is decide who lives and who dies, based on socioeconomic background or utilitarian purposes. What kind of message does this send to children who have been in foster care, or who have been adopted?Īmericans have the opportunity to stand in the gap and create a better world for kids. So many children will end up in foster homes. Both for me, and for the baby I didn’t want, and wasn’t ready for, emotionally, psychologically and financially. Then “The Good Place” actress Jameela Jamil tweeted, “I had an abortion when I was young, and it was the best decision I have ever made. You bring them into the world unwanted, unloved, then send them to the electric chair.” So you kill them now or you kill them later. John Rogers, a Democrat, put it recently, “It ought to be a woman’s choice. What this shows is that many pro-life people are actively engaged in caring for the lives of everyone and seeking to create a better world for women.Īnother argument that has gained traction is why should we allow children to be born if they’ll just end up in foster care homes or in jail? As Alabama state Rep. Last week, a Twitter user named Tuttle Singer tweeted the following, “Dear Pro-Life friends: what have you *personally* done to support lower income single mothers? I’ll wait.” As of Tuesday, her Tweet had 13,000 responses, one person after another sharing what they’ve done to serve women. Our laws must protect both the woman and her unborn child. If unborn babies are truly human beings, and science backs this up, they should have all the rights, privileges and protections as humans outside of the womb. We can’t be theoretically against killing a human being but for laws that permit humans to be killed. I’m able to advocate for the lives of others, particularly for the little ones in the womb, who can’t speak for themselves. She made the brave and courageous decision for me, and allowed me to be adopted by a couple in a position to love and raise a child. However, she didn’t abort me in the womb. My own birth mother was unable to parent me. No one should be forced into lifelong parenting if they don’t want to take on that role. Some women can’t and don’t want to raise children. Apparently you can’t do both. But we can and must care for the woman holistically, which includes protecting the little life inside of her. Those engaging in the abortion debate have tried to make this into a binary choice - either you care for the woman or you care for the unborn child in her womb. Pro-choicers claim to be the ones caring for all life, and the term “choice” is painted as the compassionate option. One of the most troubling arguments I routinely hear is that the pro-life movement only pays lip service to caring for women, but they really just care about the unborn.
